GoFundMe Campaign

The Sultana Disaster Museum, along with Director Dr. Louis Intres, the City of Marion, AR, Mayor Frank Fogleman, and the Sultana Historical Preservation Society, Inc. are working with GoFundMe to raise $35,000 to start Phase One of a campaign to hire the museum design firm of Haizlip Studio of Memphis, TN to begin the designing and architectural planning of the permanent Sultana Disaster Museum in downtown Marion. In August, the town of Marion sold an existing 1938 15,000-feet brick building to the Sultana Historical Preservation Society, Inc. for the location of the permanent museum. Located in the heart of Marion along East Military Road, the building was originally built and used as an Auditorium/Gymnasium for the Marion Public School. With pre-existing high ceilings, the building will be ideal for the creation of a partial full-scale mock-up of the Sultana, allowing people to roam her decks and see her machinery and boilers up close. However, to make such a museum possible, Dr. Intres and the others need your support. Any donation will be gladly accepted. Please go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/sultana-disaster-museum-construction and pledge your support today. We are so close to making the permanent Sultana Disaster Museum a reality. Thank you for any and all support. (See the "Future Museum" tab for pictures of the Auditorium/Gymnasium and some conceptual drawings by Haizlip Studio.)
